Volunteer at Special Bunny

We can always use volunteers!

Whether you want to volunteer to work with bunnies, work from home or something in-between, we can use your help! Learn how you can help, fill out a volunteer application, and let us know what you want to do to help bunnies in the Seattle area!

We also need advocates. Bunnies are often victims of cruelty, and need your help. Learn More

Current Volunteer Job Opportunities:

Cleaning the shelter and caring for the bunnies

We need volunteers who are willing and able to come help us on cleaning days at the Carnation shelter.

Here’s what that entails:

  • You volunteer to come regularly on one (or more!) of our cleaning days, which are Sundays, Wednesdays or Fridays for 2-4 hours.

  • We don’t need you to commit to every single week, but we do need some kind of regular commitment, because otherwise scheduling becomes very difficult for us. You can choose to come 1, 2, 3 or even 4 or more times a month.

  • You will need your own transportation.

  • You should be able to lift 30-40 pounds without difficulty. Most of the work is much lighter than this, but occasionally volunteers do need to lift bags of litter, which weigh 40lbs.

  • The work includes refreshing litter boxes, vacuuming, refilling water towers, replenishing hay, and petting the bunnies!

Want to help, but can’t do cleaning?

We understand. We also need committed bunny snugglers. We’re looking for people to come out on a regular basis to pet and talk to the bunnies. Bunny bonding experience is a big plus but not required–we’ll even train you to help bond bunnies if you are interested. This can be a HUGE help to us and to our bunnies. We have so many that not all of them get all the attention they crave and deserve. The more interaction they get, the more adoptable they are. We’d like our bunny snugglers to have some experience with rabbits. If you don’t have any experience but want to become a snuggler, plan to come out for a few cleaning days to get some ‘training’ and experience.

Requirements:

  • Volunteer hours are between 9:30am – 2:30pm

  • We don’t need you to commit to every single week, but we do need some kind of regular commitment, because otherwise scheduling becomes very difficult for us. You can choose to come 1, 2, 3 or even 4 or more times a month.

  • You will need your own transportation.

  • It may sound strange, but you do need some level of training before you fill this position. Even if you are familiar with rabbits, you may need to learn more about shelter bunnies.

Can I bring my kids?

We know kids love bunnies, but for insurance and safety reasons we don’t offer one-off tours or volunteer experiences for kids. Teens over 16 years old with their own transportation can apply if they are available for regular volunteer shifts.
